7/12/2020 Kementari decision to be made in weeks
A decision on the future of Saturday’s AJ Scahill Stakes (Gr 3, 1400m) winner Kementari (Lonhro) will be made over the coming weeks, with Godolphin not ruling out the prospect of the six-year-old continuing his racing career. Kementari had not won since taking out the Randwick Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) in March 2018 before ending the 1,001-day drought on Saturday, with the son of Lonhro (Octagonal) spending a brief spell at stud before he was found to be almost entirely fertile and subsequently gelded. “The horse has been flying and we wouldn’t have brought him back to the racetrack from his stud career if we didn’t have confidence that he was going to run good races.” Godolphin’s Australian managing director, Vin Cox, told Racing.com. “He hasn’t been running with a lot of luck, but he has been competitive at the same time. It wasn’t a relief, it was a great thrill, because we knew he had it in him and we were very excited to see him do it, and to do it in such dynamic fashion was very exciting.” With regards to Kementari’s future career, Godolphin are considering their options and Cox added: “It’ll just be a matter of what’s best for the horse."
