Glamour targets

Summer Cup

Villiers Stakes (Gr 2, 1600m) winner Greysful

Glamour (Stratum) is on track to line up in the

Summer Cup (Gr 3, 2000m) at Randwick on

Boxing Day, where she will aim to complete the

Villiers Stakes-Summer Cup double, a feat not

achieved since 2005 when the Cup was staged

over 2400 metres. Trainer Mark Newnham

will be keeping an eye on the weather ahead

of Saturday’s feature, with Greysful Glamour

better suited to a firmer track. "At this stage

she will go to the Summer Cup, weather

permitting," Newnham said. "She is bouncing

around and while she is in this form, we might

as well keep her going." If the rain does come,

Newnham is likely to give Greysful Glamour

a short break and reset towards an autumn

campaign. As the Villiers Stakes winner, the

grey gets an automatic start in the Doncaster

Mile (Gr 1, 1600m) and Newnham has not

ruled out a start in the Group 1. "I'll enter her

for everything. There are a lot of nice mares

races and she has already got a free kick into

the Doncaster," he said. "We are dictated by

the weather with her." Stablemate Spirit Ridge

(Nathaniel) is also in the mix for the Summer

Cup, which has attracted 13 nominations
