Acrobat on the Slipper path

‘All roads lead to the Golden Slipper (Gr 1,

1200m)’ was the message from connections

of Acrobat (Fastnet Rock) yesterday following

the colt’s headline-grabbing debut win at

Randwick on Saturday. The Ciaron Maher and

David Eustace-trained juvenile produced a

stunning display to take out the Inglis Nursery

(RL, 1000m) by two and three-quarter lengths

and put himself among the leading fancies for

the Rosehill contest on March 20. “He was very

impressive yesterday and I think the front two

are good horses and they pulled well clear,”

Eustace told RSN927. Eustace and Maher’s

stable dominate the Slipper market, with

Acrobat (backed into $13 after being added at

$26 on Saturday), joining stablemates Enthaar

(Written Tycoon) and Sneaky Five (Fastnet

Rock) among the top four in betting. “The

Slipper is the main goal,” Eustace continued.

“He’ll probably have to go through a regular

route down a traditional lead-in to the Slipper.

He won’t go out of work, he’ll stay in work. He

went to the beach this morning and we’ll just

keep ticking him over, and just spend the next

few days working out a path.”
